CARMONA: Aggrieved regarding the pending twin development works of Carmona Sports Upgradation Project and football ground to be undertaken by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), the Carmona Village Panchayat has yet again urged its local MLA to raise this issue so that both these projects receive the necessary sanction from the government.
In a letter to Benaulim NCP MLA Churchill Alemao, Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge requested the MLA to again take up the issue which he had raised during the recently conducted Assembly Session and pointed out that Churchill had also spoken about the other development proposals in Benaulim Constituency.
Jorge lamented that Carmona further lacks a proper football ground and the community centre which were proposed in the panchayat property at Ankur Luis Ward. But these proposals are stuck in the files due to lack of political will and support. The proposal for a football ground (estimated at Rs 8 crore) was put forth to the MLA and the Sports Upgradation Project under the Deen Dayal Scheme (initially estimated at Rs 1.8 crore) by the GSIDC gathered dust as there were no bidders for the tenders and required revised estimates to be submitted.
“Some developmental proposal files are lying at the Block Development Officer (BDO) office for more than a year awaiting estimate. This matter has been mentioned to the MLA Alemao who spoke to the BDO. The development of the football ground and the Sports Upgradation Project under the GSIDC was also raised during the Chief Minister level discussions held between the MLA, sarpanch and GSIDC officials at the CM’s Altinho residence on June 2, 2020.”
“However, both these proposals are in cold storage with the GSIDC though the Chief Minister had issued instructions during that meeting to take up the development of the football ground and prepare estimates for the Sports Upgradation Project under the Deen Dayal Scheme of the panchayats,” revealed Jorge.
