PANJIM: The State government’s decision to go cashless from December 31 has been slammed by Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) and Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Mancha (BBSM) terming it a ‘major scam’.
GSM President Anand Shirodkar said the announcement by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar of making Goa cashless was not feasible.
“He (Parrikar) is an expert in misguiding people. Goa is not like England or New York to easily implement the system. We have vegetable vendors, small retailers and other sections of society where such implementation is not feasible. Even an educated person will have to undergo three months training to carry out cashless transactions,” he told the media on Thursday.
He was supported by BBSM’s Uday Bhembre who too did not spare Parrikar’s constant interventions in the State administration. Bhembre said, “Parrikar is a part-time Defence Minister. He should speak the language of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. He is not even the MP of Rajya Sabha from Goa. What right does he have to make such an announcement?”
Both leaders alleged that the attempt to make Goa the first cashless State is a major scam with Shirodkar stating this will expose the government.
