PANJIM: Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday urged L&T that is constructing the third Mandovi Bridge to clear, within a week, the drains which are either blocked or filled with debris.
Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Vice-Chairman Siddharth Kuncalienkar who was present for the joint inspection along with WRD said, “This is a joint inspection to ensure that the water does not clog around Panjim bus stand area.”
Panjim Mayor Vithal Chopdekar said this is seventh inspection conducted by him to ensure that water logging around the bus stand area is avoided.
“We want to ensure that the area is not flooded. Water logging in the State’s capital is nothing new. Major roads, including Dayanand Bandodkar Marg and 18th June Road, witness flooding for hours,” he said.
He added, “The area outside the KTC bus stand has witnessed flooding in the past and has brought Panjim to its knees. If the drains are not repaired before the monsoons, the main entry to the city will be choked and CCP will not be responsible as we have time and again been writing to GSIDC.”
The Mayor also said that water-logging at Patto will be a direct consequence of the work on the third Mandovi Bridge, claiming that the drains are blocked by sludge and mud, which then gets transferred into the pipes along with the running rainwater.
