PANJIM: CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar has accused the corporation’s Commissioner of bending before the casino lobby and not acting against their illegalities.
After the special meeting of the CCP, CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar alleged that the Commissioner had been acting against the staff which acted against the casinos.
“The way he reacted during the meeting today and his statements clearly point out that the Commissioner is bending in favour of the casinos. He has been acting against the staff that goes and takes action against the illegalities of the casinos”, he stated. He also referred to the recent action initiated by CCP against the encroachment by ‘Big Daddy’ casino, and said the Commissioner had taken the staff to task. “He does not support the staff when they are out to action against the casinos. You will see that the officers support the casinos whereas we, the elected people have been opposing them”, he added.
Taking exception the walkout by the Commissioner before the national anthem, the Mayor said, “In what frustration he walked out before the national anthem, I do not understand. The national anthem is a gesture of officially announcing the concluding of the meeting. However, when we objected to the agenda, he said ‘God save CCP’ and then just stood up and walked out. It is clear that his only intention was to get the casinos involved in the city’s project, which we do not want.”
He also questioned how the CCP can seek funds from the casinos to setup their projects when the CCP is supporting the people’s demand to get rid of the casinos from the River Mandovi.
