The civic body has proposed health insurance cover to the workers instead of medical allowance.
The meeting was chaired by Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado with CCP Commissioner Deepak Dessai present. CCP has constituted a special council body to decide on the union’s demands.
Speaking to Herald after the meeting, Union leader Ajitsingh Rane said, “CCP plans to replace the medical allowance with health insurance cover which will have larger benefit and the premium will be paid by the corporation,” he said.
“However, we suggested that daily wage employees can be covered under insurance, while in the case of regular workers, the hiked medical allowance be granted,” Rane said adding that CCP has decided to think on the proposal.
The Union leader claimed that the Corporation also agreed to hike the wages of workers employed in collection of door-to-door garbage.
“Since, the meeting was healthy, we have decided to defer our proposed strike for now,” Rane said.
