PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Thursday launched a campaign #AmkaNakaPlastic and #MakaNakaPlastic as an initiative to curb the use of single-use-plastic in the capital city.
On account of this a total of 6000 bags made up of eco-friendly material will be distributed across various markets in the State including Panjim, Margao and Mapusa, informed an official of the CCP.

“The aim behind initiating this campaign is to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags in Panjim and across the State and to begin a transition to more sustainable options,” he added.
He further informed that the campaign was supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India (German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH) and NGO partner, The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI). During the campaign, volunteers interacted with shoppers and vendors in Panjim market and at the same time distributed the upcycled cloth carry bags to the vendors. Volunteers through their interaction educated the vendors about need to curb the use of single-use plastic.
The Union Ministry of Environment has imposed a ban on the use of single-use plastic from July 1, this year.
