PANJIM: The Union Mines Secretary will hold a video conference with the Secretary in-charge of mines department of 12 major mineral States, including Goa, on May 17.
A communication in this regard has been issued to the Secretary (Mines) Dawlat Hawaldar. The video conference will begin at 11 am on May 17.
The major focus of the meeting is going to be the State’s preparedness for auction of mining leases. The States will have to submit details of blocks that would be put to auction for the current financial year.
In Goa, mining operations are currently under suspension as the Supreme Court has quashed and set aside the second renewals granted to 88 iron ore mining leases.
As such, the leases are currently open for auction.
The State has to also furnish details with regards to the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) and the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET).
The Ministry will also seek to know the action plan for implementation of Star Rating for minor minerals and capacity building for improvement in the rating for major mines.
