According to information, the total input of coal through the state port was about 17 million tones.
He said that the green cess was also reduced from 2.5% to 0.5%.
“This coal goes by railway and can fetch Rs 100 crore thorugh cess, not immediately but over a period of time,” he said, adding,
“It had become prohibitive. So they were importing from other ports.”
He also said that the Cabinet had cleared the appointment of 233 meters readers on contract basis for a year, as well as 79 post of lady PSIs and 221 lady constables who would be given a onetime concession as far as physical parameters was concerned.
The cabinet also cleared the appointment of REC (Rural Electrification Corporation) to effect the complete computerization of the electricity department, subject to central clearance.
“Around three months we cancelled the appointment of SPANCO which was given the work order in 2010 but had done nothing (contract was Rs 84 odd crore). Today we took a decision to give the contract to REC for Rs 116 crore subject to the clearance by the Centre,” chief minister Manohar Parrikar told media.
