MARGAO: Citing the orders from the court, a group of villagers from Chandor on Wednesday stopped movement of heavy vehicles on Chandor road, resulting in a tensed situation.
Hearing about the development, personnel from the Maina-Curtorim police station rushed at the site and took control over the situation. Interestingly, police too have warned of strict action against owners of the heavy vehicles, if they try to run their vehicles on the said road.

The said incident was reported on Wednesday morning, wherein a large number of locals gathered at the site and protested against the movement of heavy vehicles on Chandor road.
Speaking to reporters Ravi Dessai, Police Inspector of Maina-Curtorim said police rushed at the site when they heard about people stopping heavy vehicles.
“There are orders that heavy vehicles, including trucks, cannot ply on the said road. Strict action will be initiated against the violators of this rule,” he said.
However, Franky Gomes, President of Margao-Salcete Truck Owners Association, said that empty trucks can be allowed to use the road.
“We are paying the road tax and hence have the right to drive our trucks on all the roads. Stopping the trucks is not fair,” he said.
Claiming that only coal trucks are being targeted, he demanded action against all the heavy vehicles if there is a ban on their plying Chandor roads.
