PONDA: The Chhat Puja (worship of Sun God) was celebrated on Tuesday evening in the nullah located at Nagzar Curti Mahadev Temple premises.
The programme was organised by the Chhath Puja Seva Samithi.
On the occasion, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that festivals and various religious traditions are collectively celebrated in India. “The festivals have helped to preserve unity and integrity. All have respect for each other’s culture and tradition and all of them participate in each other’s celebrations and Goans are no exception to it,” he said.
Others present on the occasion were BJP President Vinay Tendulkar, South Goa MP Adv Narendra Savoikar, Curti Sarpanch Satan Fernandes, and President of Chat Puja Seva Samithi Avnaesh Kumar Anand.
On the occasion, people hailing from North India offered prayers when the Sun was setting. Chhat Puja is celebrated in Bihar, Jarkhand and eastern UP. Chhath Puja is performed to thank God Surya for sustaining life on earth to seek his blessing in terms of wellbeing, prosperity and progress.
