Directs CES to maintain status quo until plea disposed

MARGAO: The Chowgule Higher Secondary episode took a new turn on Monday after the District and Sessions Court, South stayed the meeting of the stakeholders called by the District Collector ND Agrawal in his chamber this afternoon.
A large number of students and teachers who had assembled outside the District Collector’s office hoping for a solution on school timings, returned disappointed after Agrawal cancelled the meeting in view of the court order.
While staying today’s meeting, the Court has directed the Chowgule Education Society to maintain status quo at the site as directed by the District Collector till disposal of the petition. The application filed by Chowgule Education Society will now come up for hearing on July 6.
Agrawal later told media persons that he cancelled today’s meeting in view of stay granted by the court on his order convening the meet. ‘The court has called for maintaining status quo at the college as per my directions issued to the college Principal to open the staff room,” Agrawal added.
A member of the teaching staff Prof Srikant More said teachers and students would meet in a day or two to chalk out the future course of action. “We will try to find out whether we can also become parties through intervention application,” Prof More said.
Education Director Anil Powar, deputy Director of Education Ramkrishna Samant, Additional Collector Sandhya Kamat were also present in the chamber of the district Collector.
Meanwhile, Chowgule Education Society lawyer, Adv Avdhut Arsekar told Herald that the Society had filed the revision application in the Sessions Court against the Collector’s order on grounds that the Collector had no jurisdiction to pass the order. The Society also submitted that the Collector did not specify the law and order situation that would arise at the higher secondary school.
The District Collector had convened a meeting after the uproar on Saturday over the closure of the staff room and the change in the timings of the XI science students from 12.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
