PANJIM: Additional North Goa District Collector Dipak Desai, who has been appointed by the government to inquire into the suspected food poisoning outbreak at Aguada jail, has sought for additional 15 days to complete the probe.
The government had ordered a high level magisterial probe after one convict died and over 40 prisoners lodged at Aguada Jail and Mapusa judicial lock-up were hospitalized for suspected food poisoning, on May 31. The order sought the inquiry to be completed by June 30.
Ironically, the additional collector inquiring into the suspected food poising too fell sick and was reportedly forced to go on sick leave during which he underwent a surgery only to join his duty last Friday, June 28.
As of now, the inquiry officer has conducted physical inspection of the jail premises and recorded statements of some of the affected prisoners who have ruled out deliberate food poisoning and suspect that it was an accident.
