Georgina Nunes, girlfriend of Moira resident Cipriano Fernandes who allegedly died in police custody moved an application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panjim on Monday stating she could not depose in the matter due to her health problems.
Georgina told the Court that she was hospitalised for low-blood pressure and doctors advised her to take rest. The magistrate adjourned the hearing in the matter to February 23.
Georgina, who worked on a cruise ship, had said she had seen police beating Cipriano, who subsequently succumbed to his injuries in the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
The death of Cipriano has raked up much heat with the police image coming in for severe beating. Three police personnel, including PI Sandesh Chodankar, were suspended for the unfortunate incident.
Crime Branch registered an FIR in the case after Herald mounted pressure and there was huge outcry from the public against the police personnel who actually beat Cipriano in custody. However, no arrests have been made till date in spite of the charges of murder and destruction of evidence being serious.
