The sprouting of potholes in Goa triggered a slew of complaints from the locals along with the usual ‘fire-fighting’ minister’s promise to find the remedy before Ganesh festival. And applauds to this, the people are now reassured and happy!
The Goan pothole seems to be a class apart! Recalling that a tech savvy former Chief Minster had promised Rs 500 for every pothole! Never kept his word, for obvious reasons! With the Government freely doling out moolah in the Traffic Sentinel Scheme, should they not revive this offer?
Seriously, what is it with the pothole? Is it a technical impossibility to have pothole free roads — even for one monsoon? Are we to believe this? If so, the PWD Minister must say so — or the Chief Minster who has pat answers to all problems with no action needed! Does the problem lie with the contractors: who use cheap/less material? If so, the PWD engineers need to be pulled up.
Is there any other reason? Should not we demand answers? If the problem is known, it can be solved. If the problem is corruption, and so not being solved, what does it say about the present Government and the last Government? And about the people?
‘Milking’ is an art. We see this especially with repair shops. You take your vehicle for a particular repair, and before you know it, you have to go back for another problem. You then begin to realise you are being ‘milked’. Incidentally, this concept did not exist some decades back and perhaps explains why Goans do not want to get into such businesses: we cannot compete with such people!
If potholes do not appear regularly then the ‘yield’ will not be attractive! On the plus side: we can say we have a high yield which translates to an efficient system!
