ARAMBOL: The Arambol locals have expressed annoyance at the authorities for turning a Nelson’s eye towards stray cattle menace even during the festival days. Motorists have to battle stray cattle sitting on the roads especially on the main Mandrem-Keri road.
The matter of a cattle pound in the panchayat area has been unresolved for the past two years and despite being debated at every gram sabha.

The cattle pound was operational for a few months initially days but the pound keeper hired to manage it is has been doing other panchayat works instead. It’s learnt that the panchayat has kept the decision pending due to lack of proper space.
Locals also claimed that acquiring government land in the panchayat for the cowshed is tricky as most of the government owned lands are aframents which are controlled by local farmers.
Locals also pointed out that the government keeps issuing notices to erect cowsheds in the panchayat but does not mention any guidelines on acquiring land for the same. They have requested the government to draft a clearer policy for the cowshed scheme to be executed properly.
“Panchayat members should take the matter to their political seniors at the earliest to avoid the mishaps,” said one of the locals.
