As we all well know, Chandor was once the capital of Goa, which is reflects a beautiful heritage with amazing Portuguese-era houses, monuments and structures.
These days all seem to be out to destroy the peace of our heritage village, from the State government to the South Western Railway department. We are yet to come to terms with one shock, of the State highway no 8 and now the South Western Railway department called Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has proposed a hub for coal in Chandor village Railway Station, by not only double the tracking but also increasing the number of tracks to ten.
The people of Chandor and Guridolim are fed up with one railway track, as people have to stand in a big line to cross the railway track for over 20 minutes.
Surprisingly, the railway track and bridge issues are yet to be solved and now more problems are heaped upon us.
Besides, even when the railway crossing gate is open vehicles find it difficult to pass easily because of the ever-increasing traffic jam and the small width of the road.
People from Sanvordem and Curchorem who are keen to take advantage of the short cut get trapped in the jam.
I have seen on so many occasions Goa Kadamba Transport Corporation bus getting trapped for a long time and customer have to suffer due to this, after paying for the shuttle bus service, which they think will be a faster option. Now if the coal hub proposal comes into effect at Chandor village it will bring serious problems for us in future.
With the news that a coal hub has been planned for Chandor, we can tell all who those who thought that Goa’s fight against coal was not their problem and only the problem of people of Vasco people that you are totally wrong.
This will be the problem of the whole of Goa in the coming years. These are the plans which the State government is making with the railway department.
Perhaps, they are only thinking of their own benefits and none of them are thinking about the People’s future and generations that will follow. Let us all, the people of Chandor and Guridolim, unite together to save and protect our historically-rich land. Wake up before it is too late.
I request the Goa government and south western Railway department head office to withdraw the plan for the coal hub in our village Chandor Railway Station.
Chandor and Guridolim panchayat office and MLA too should take action on this issue as soon as possible.
