Strolling through Benaulim, I came across a very ugly sight. In front of the Cana Benaulim Village Panchayat, I was horrified to see heaps of dry waste lying by the roadside. The pile-up of waste is barely covered by blue plastic sheets and is an eyesore in what was a scenic location.
I appreciate the initiative of panchayat to collect rubbish, but can’t a secluded location be found where waste could be deposited for eventual clearance?
We claim to be an attractive tourist destination where many earn income from happy tourists. This abysmal sight, however, is a stain on our beautiful environment and threatens to drive tourists away.
To make matters worse, a mere two metres from the trash, there’s fresh milk being sold. So, it’s not just an ugly sight but also one that threatens health and well-being.
We, however, live in hope that corrective action will be taken and that this neighbourhood will regain its beauty and hygiene.
