The 100-metre road stretch starting from Virgincar Garage opposite Indira Apartments Cooperative Housing Society, Comba-Baixo road to the bend of a well-known beverage wholesale outlet has been dug up haphazardly in sections by heavy earthmoving equipment for laying sewerage pipes by Gypsum Structural Pvt Ltd, assigned by Margao Municipal Council (MMC).
The project work is carried out with “earsplitting and nerve wracking” noise for the past one week on a non-stop basis even on Sundays affecting the senior citizens and school students on either side of the road.
To make matters worse the car mechanics, who have set up cubicles without trade licences, emit carbon monoxide and smoke from the exhaust of vehicles.
With this hectic construction activity in progress, it has become extremely hazardous and dangerous for vehicles to ply on the road as cars and two wheelers dangerously negotiate the pits and trenches for laying the sewerage pipes. God forbid, in case of a fire hazard or a sick call, neither an ambulance nor a fire tender will be able to gain access during emergency.
If proper precaution and safety measures are not in place, the residents and passersby could be sitting on a time bomb at the mercy of the Margao Municipal Council, which is lax in supervising the planned activity.
