VALPOI: On Wednesday, 31 January, there was a chaotic situation at the Aadhar enrolment centre – Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) – working under the registrar, government of Goa at Valpoi Community Health Centre.
Over a thousand people stood in queue for updating their Aadhaar cards, but people displayed their agitation outside the Centre, as only 300 people were given forms and the remaining were left high and dry.
The agitation was vociferous and loud, and people could be heard shouting and arguing with the officials preset at the centre. Some even abused the officials for meting out this shabby treatment and subsequently demanded that the Government should provide Aadhaar updating centre at every panchayat in the taluka, or they would agitate.
In December, we were given the date that those who want to correct there Aadhaar cards should visit the Valpoi Center on January 31 and tokens too were given in this regard. That is why we reached the centre early in the morning and stood in queue for a long time. It was only in the afternoon that the Aadhaar updating centre officials told us that there were no forms available and the existing forms were exhausted. This is not the right attitude and we demand that the government provide Aadhaar updating centre in every panchayat of Sattari Taluka, a local youth Vanita Varak said.
“I had reached at Aadhaar centre at 8 am and stood in a line for hours, and when I reached the door of the centre, they told me that Aadhaar forms were over. There is only one Aadhaar centre in our taluka and that too is not operating properly, besides they are misguiding the people. We come from very remote areas, we demand that the government takes steps to start Aadhaar centres in every panchayat, another local Rajaram Marathe pointed out.
“I reached at Valpoi Aadhaar centre at 6 am and there were about 2000 locals who came here to correct their Aadhaar cards and it is disgusting to note that there are no forms available, an old woman, Parvati Majik who travelled from remote area, said.
