The contract labourers hired by Cuncolim Electricity Department are risking their life for their daily wages. They are not provided safety belt or proper sized ladders by the department to reach the high poles and have to put their life in risk to reach the top. This is a sorry condition in which the Electricity Department operates.
A lot needs to be done to impart safety working culture among the field workers. They must be provided safety shoes, safety harnesses, high voltage insulation gloves, etc.
Most importantly there should be surprise breath analysis for on duty personnel conducted by the concerned authorities..
