In Mapusa, roads are horrible. Two years back roads were dug to lay sewage pipes and the road is not redone properly resulting in big unseen trenches. Speed breakers do not have white paint and we cannot make out where the speed breaker is. Two or three speed breakers along district hospital Mapusa are not seen at all and one can go for a toss. No one is controlling the buses. I have never seen police men issuing challans to buses. They stop in the middle of the road.
Take the Court junction near Trimurthi building. When a bus halts just at the turn it becomes very difficult for other vehicles to move on. Pedestrians do not follow specific rules. They cross the roads at any point; some will speak on mobile while walking. In the afternoon most of the drivers, whether it is two wheeler or four or six most of them drink and drive. Two wheelers use bikes or scooters as a goods rickshaw. Two-wheelers are used to carry live hens, beer or cold drink bottles or any other shopping material. I have seen pillion riders holding a 12-foot ladder vertically. Iron rods stick out of trucks and are really dangerous.
The vehicles used by government do not follow rules. I have seen police bus parked in no parking zone at the side of Mapusa court. Traffic police are more absent than on the road. I wonder when this situation will improve.
