We should primarily take good care and pride of our National Highways. But the state of our National Highway NH 17 near St Francis Xavier’s Chapel, Navelim is pathetic!
There are huge pot holes. The craters are so bad that the road being a two lane has to be operated as a one lane at that junction! Imagine the plight of the patient in an ambulance due to the pathetic condition of the road. The traffic halting alternately for use as a single lane can be the cause for loss of a life too. Not to fail mentioning a four-wheeler sailing rather than driving at that junction!
The contractors should be definitely fined for not doing a good job as well as the various departments responsible for digging and not getting the road tarred back to safety well before monsoon. In fact the fine can be imposed the whole year round at any given point of time during which the work is being undertaken.
The whole stretch of the road on the left hand side towards Margao is indented making it so difficult for two wheelers to ride at the side thus forcing them to ride in the centre and causing a hindrance to four wheelers.
The concerned authorities need to look into the matter and do the needful before a grave mishap takes place.
