During a recent interaction with the local population at Canacona, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar assured regular and uninterrupted water supply to every household in Canacona by 2018.
For achieving this goal, the minister promised proper augmentation and utilisation of available water resources in the coming months. Of course, if Canconkars would receive regular water supply by 2018, then it is equally important that Adpaicars too should be provided such a benefit on a priority basis.
Over the years, residents at Adpai village in Ponda have been facing untold hardships due to non-availability of regular tap water during day time. Water is available only during early morning and late evening or night.
During daytime, taps run almost dry and housewives in particular find it difficult to undertake household activities like washing utensils, clothes, cooking, bathing, etc. Elected representatives at the local village panchayat, the VP of Durbhat, have failed to assure relief to the locals by providing water tankers even during extreme emergencies.
They also do not appear enthusiastic enough nor do they display inclination to hold necessary talks with the higher officials at the Public Works Department (PWD-Water Division) for overcoming the difficulties the residents face from time to time.
As on Saturday November 11, taps at this village were found to be dry as early as 7 am. Nevertheless, time has come for the local MLA and PWD minister to levy a sympathetic attitude to the water woes at Adpai village (which tends to be a part and parcel of his Marcaim constituency). Since water is very much essential for consumption and also for undertaking household choirs, let us hope that the minister would provide regular water supply to Adpaicars too, at least by 2018.
This long standing demand needs to become a reality soon. Indeed, difficulties of residents in this important matter should end on a permanent basis.
Let us hope that prompt favourable action would follow in the interest of local residents.
