Radha Park Society lodged its complaint on Nov 2, 2017 and May 5, 2017 that there is less pressure in the main water supply line of PWD in Bamon vaddo, Siolim. This has also been experienced by many individual domestic consumers. Since ours is a housing society the shortage of water was felt very severely. Repeated visits to the PWD office in Mapusa, meeting the concerned JE, telephonic calls all prove fruitless. By God’s divine intervention our last resorts helped to solve our problem, finally on June 20, the PWD technicians arrived inspected and attended the problem. The line was chocked and the old pipeline had to be replaced from the main line to the meter box. From then on we have regular water supply and sufficient enough to store for the next day too. But this came at a price, whooping Rs. 24000 paid to the private water tanker for two months. Whose fault was this? My advice to the chief engineer and PWD minister who has been promising the moon all the time, but holds on to his favourite portfolio, the Ministry of PWD is a distant dream for the water consumers to get 24X7 supply of water.
When there exists such lackadaisical attitude with officials in-charge, I suggest that PWD Minister start a dedicated 24X7 helpline for consumer complaints. Sometimes citizens see water overflowing. And if this happens at night or on a holiday there is nobody to stop the waste or nobody to complaint to.
The chief engineer should display the name of the Public grievance officers. The minister should establish the Public grievance redressal committee to look into all issues concerning the consumer. The minister may take some advice from the Power Minister or the Chief Electrical Engineer to find out what makes the Electricity Department consumer friendly. If the Electricity Department can do this, why not the PWD?
