Soil erosion at Siridao beach

When the Water Resources Department (WRD) began work on constructing a retaining wall at Siridao Beach in April, it was a huge sigh of relief for my family as our property was under threat of soil erosion ever since a portion of the retaining wall had collapsed in July last year.
However, our joy has been short lived as the WRD has left the work on the wall midway and our property, where we run a restaurant, continues to be under threat as waves have been pounding the area mercilessly.
The WRD abruptly abandoned the work ever since the monsoon set in and now, the waves have been pounding the bank continuously during high tide. As a result, a chunk of my property land has been washed away. I have already spent over Rs 25,000 just to protect my land from further erosion.
We have no choice but to put our faith in God and hope that nothing untoward happens to our property.”
