Substandard Dr Jack de Sequeira road is under attack

The Dr Jack de Sequeira road was built in the Miramar-Dona Paula area long ago, where water accumulation from River Mandovi existed. All of us Panjimites knew that this road will one day create problem as chances of sinking will definitely take place within short duration.

After that, number of highrise building have come up much above 10 floors allegedly built without a proper approval from the competent authority, who have no qualified engineers to give an approval for such a road having a bad terrain where deep excavation above 500 metres was necessary. When this road was completed, the builders had an opportunity to built highrise construction and the plans were approved in haste by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and Town and Country Planning Department.

Now, the result of this Dr Jack de Sequeira road in shown its true colours. The digging work is going on patch size repairs at certain places where immediate repairs were found necessary for traffic hazards.

So far, these highrise buildings are not shown if required any demolition because these constructions are recent. Many parts in India we have seen such illegal highrise constructions being razed down.

Now, coming to the point of attack I am putting my view for the public domain.

1. Why is the government publicity starved? One possible trend may be, they wish to compete with other parties in looting the tax-payers money for aggrandisement!

Our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant please declare how much is being spent on this job fair. Want to compere if it could cross one-month salary of Rs 4,000 lucky employees.

2. Why the inviting hoardings of casinos on each pole on both the sides of this main road of Dona Paula to Panjim still exist? Do they not cause accidents and loss of lives? How much of revenue is collected by the CCP this year so far?

3. Why the concerned parties have decided to allow garbage dumping just next to the footpath at Dr Jack de Sequeira concrete substandard road which still layers are coming out and now repairs in progress?

4. What is the philosophy of not completing works opposite Babush mansion?

5. Why is the gutter work near Aivao village at Caranzalem area going at snail’s pace, the greatest inconvenience to the pedestrians? So tragic to see vehicles moving on the gutter-slabs and footpaths, forcing pedestrians to run inside adjacent houses.

Look near Bal Bhavan and opposite parade ground, the number of cables were protruding in the air searching for connectivity to drain storm water into Mandovi River? When no openings were found, the authorities diverted other side of this religious tree, where again found number of cables and the drain also has no plans to be routed into the river but to leave it to the chamber as told to me by the contractor recently.

These cables, which belong to various government departments are haphazardly seen in the drain as they belong to Electricity, Water, PWD, Telephone etc which again when the fault occurs they will be requiring once again to open the gutter and remove the concrete slabs and place on the road.
