In the picture one can see an excavator demolishing the canal built at Telaulim, Navelim, for the purpose of irrigation. Was the canal illegally built? No it is not an illegal construction. The canal was built about two decades back when Congress (I) was in power to give boost to agriculture. Telaulim and Navelim did not receive a single drop of water from this canal.
The same canal is now being demolished to make way for western bypass National Highway number 17. My question for the present ruling government is why did they not release water through the canal for the last four and half years. The work on western bypass is going on in full swing. Why was the same interest not shown to release water? I also want to say that the so called dynamic Congress MLA has done nothing for the betterment of farmers.
There is no doubt that the western bypass is built for the sake of Mopa airport. I fear that Navelim will slowly turn into a concrete jungle by not releasing water through the canal built by spending crores of public money. Can any of the candidates contesting for the upcoming 2017 state election take away my fear and provide some answers?
