PANJIM: Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has said that citizens are crucial stakeholders to maintain peace while also calling them ‘policemen without uniform’ as he held a community outreach initiative on Wednesday.
“Citizens are the most important stake holders in the maintenance of peace and order in the State. While it is the duty of the police to ensure crime control and maintain law and order in the State, the citizens are also policemen without uniform. They are the eyes and ears of the law enforcement agency. Without their active help, no force can maintain order in the society,” the DGP said while addressing the gathering of local residents in Margao and solicited suggestions from them to improve policing in the State.
He further said that Goa occupies a unique position of an exemplar of communal harmony in the country and requested people to maintain it so by ensuring vigil during celebration of festivals.
He particularly said the Eid-ul- Fitr should be celebrated with usual brotherhood and amity and also requested people to assist police in verification of tenants as strangers may commit crime and run away and there would be no trace or trail left.
On the traffic front, the DGP appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and advise their young children also to obey traffic rules for their and others safety.
“In order to improve handling of public grievances, a new initiative of ‘Samadhan’ would be started from Saturday whereby all SDPOs would be available at their respective Police Stations and listen to the public grievances. Of late there were some complaints of discourteous behavior by some policemen,” he said.
