PANJIM: After the hurly burly and the furore of the Corporation of the City of Panaji mayoral elections, the dust began to settle and reality dawned on the political posturing, with newly elected Mayor Surendra Furtado meeting Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who is also the local MLA.
Furtado, who was backed by the Atanasio Monserrate group of corporators offered a bouquet of flowers to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at his official Altinho residence on Saturday.
According to Furtado, the CM assured him all the support for the development of the city of Panjim.
It may be recalled that postponement of the elections initially supposed to be held on March 20 had led to a major row between the chief minister and the now ruling council led by Furtado.
Even after the elections the mentor of the ruling panel Sta Cruz MLA Monserrate had alleged interference by the chief minister before the elections and accused him of trying to influence corporators through secret ballot voting for the mayor’s and deputy mayor’s posts.
