DABOLIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday assured to set up two mix garbage disposal treatment plants in North and South Goa on trial basis.
Parrikar was speaking after inspecting the site for the bridge at railway crossing at Cansaulim. Environment Minister Alina Saldanha and others accompanied the chief minister during the inspection.
“Land and all necessary permissions will be provided by the government and the machinery will have to be set up by the company which is interested to set up garbage treatment plant. The company concerned will have to initially bear the cost of the entire setting up of the plant and over a period of time, the government will take it over,” said Parrikar.
“The plant in South Goa will be set up in Verna soon and will not accommodate the waste of entire South Goa. It’s for trial purpose to prove to the people that there is a good garbage treatment facility available,” stated Parrikar clearing the misconception of the people and added, “It’s not for the entire South Goa, but only for little part as it is for trial purpose.”
The road over railway bridge at level crossing at Cansaulim was the long-pending demand of the villagers of Cansaulim, Arrosim and Cuelim, which is a major bottleneck of traffic in the area.
Parrikar instructed superintendent engineer Sheldenkar to initiate proceedings and give the project to Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and take approvals from the South Western Railway authority.
“We have requested GSIDC and asked PWD to move for land acquisition for the flyover road and under pass and it will be done soon,” assured Parrikar.
Saldanha said earlier they had two meetings with South West Railway authority and had placed their request. “They will get back to us and now we have put forward the plan through the government,” she said.
