MARGAO, OCT 28
Coming  out openly in support of Zarinha Shah in ward no 14 and Avinash Shirodkar in ward no 17, Chief Minister,  Digambar Kamat has exuded confidence that 8-9 candidates backed by him would win from the Margao area of the civic body where 11 seats are at stake.
After addressing a public meeting of former Sirvodem Councilor, Zarinha Shah on Thursday evening, Kamat said most of his candidates from the Margao area would emerge victorious in the polls.
‘Out of the 20 wards, my candidates would win in 8-9 seats in the ensuing polls”, Kamat told Herald.
Earlier addressing the election meeting of Zarinha Shah, the Chief Minister said that though Shah was not representing Ward No 14 in the last five years, she continued her work in the ward, earning goodwill from the local residents.
Making an appeal to the electorate to vote and elect Zarinha to the Civic body, Kamat expressed confidence that the former Councilor would leave up to their expectations and promised to offer all out support to her to complete all pending works.
The Chief Minister said that he has taken up work on the underground sewerage project in Sirvodem, adding that work on the underground cabling would commence soon. “I will offer my full support to Zarinha”, he said.
Kamat’s presence at Zarinha’s election meeting assumes significance given that Congressmen and the Chief Minister’s close supporter Dayanand Deulkar is also in the fray. By addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister has sent a clear cut message to the voters that he has rallied behind Zarinha in Ward No 14.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister attended a meeting organized by candidate Avinash Shirodkar  and appealed to the voters of ward No 17 to elect him to the Civic body.
CM’s presence at the meeting organized by Avinash also assumes significance given that another congressmen and GPCC secretary Damodar Korgaonkar is also in the fray in ward No 17.
