PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured that he will speak to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister to expedite the completion of the Tillari Irrigation Project, which, along with other downstream projects, will significantly boost Goa’s water supply.

Once completed, the project is expected to provide 240 MLD (million litres per day) of water, with future plans to increase this to 500 MLD.
On Friday, Sawant visited the Tillari Irrigation Project site, the Sal Barrage project, and the Amthane Minor Irrigation and Raw Water Pumping Station, accompanied by WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye, and WRD Chief Engineer Pramod Badami. During the inspection, Sawant assured that these projects would improve water supply across three talukas in North Goa.
Regarding the Sal Barrage, which lifts 250 MLD of water, Sawant stated, “The project is progressing well and will play a crucial role in supplying water to treatment plants in Assonora, Pilerne, Guirim, Chandel, and Mopa.” He also highlighted that the Amthane project will further enhance water supply to Latambarcem and Assonora.
On the Tillari Canal breach, Sawant confirmed that Rs 128 crore had been allocated for repairs.
