PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opined that complete shutting down of economic activities is not advisable even as some States have imposed certain restrictions amid a surge in Coronavirus cases due to its Omicron variant.
After attending the review meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to review the current COVID-19 situation and national COVID-19 vaccination progress in the State along with Chief Ministers of other States through video conferencing, Sawant said that during the meeting Modi stressed on increasing vaccination coverage, strengthening of health infrastructure, positivity rate and localised measures to contain COVID-19 without affecting livelihoods of the common people.

Sawant said that the Prime Minister took overall situation of the Coronavirus and asked States to be alert in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases while, urging them to maintain momentum on the economy and to focus more on local containment.
As a precaution, the Prime Minister asked all States to achieve 100 per cent vaccination, vaccination for children aged between 15 and18 years and booster dose for citizens above the age of 60 years, who have comorbidities in a bid to prevent the spread of highly transmissible virus.
Although, the positivity rate is high, hospitalisation and intensive care unit (ICU) requirement is one per cent or less and recovery rate is about 92 per cent in Goa. It has been decided to give more stress on wearing of face masks and maintain social distancing and to focus on vaccination drive, said Sawant.
According to the Chief Minister, Modi said that there is a need to ensure that more testing is done in places where cases are being detected more. Also there is a need to isolate the patient and treat them at home.
Modi also said that there is a need to counter any misinformation about the vaccines or the practice of wearing masks. The use of tele-medicine facilities in treating will help a great deal, he told Chief Ministers of States.
