CMC issues stay order on bungalow

The Cuncolim Municipal Council on Wednesday issued a stop work order to stop construction activity on the controversial bungalow at Adiband, even as Cuncolim MLA and Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao promised to stand by the people in their agitation.
CMC Chief Office Shivaji Desai issued the stop work order to the builder to stop construction work and has called for a hearing of the parties on Monday.
Meanwhile, a large number of people, opposing the bungalow construction on grounds that it would be used for an institution, told the local MLA and Urban Development Minister that they will oppose the project tooth and nail.
They pointed out that the project has been approved by the Civic body due to political pressure and demanded revocation of the construction license.
The people maintained that the project if allowed would vitiate the peace and tranquility in the ward and vowed to launch a sustained agitation against the project.
Alemao gave the residents a patient hearing and asked the Civic body to stop the construction activity till the hearing is held on Monday.
It is learnt that Alemao had summoned the CMC Chairperson Devendra Desai along with Chief Officer Shivaji Desai and the Municipal engineer to ascertain the status of the construction project.
