PANJIM: The war of words between the ruling BJP and the Opposition AAP over the cash-for-jobs scam came to a flashpoint on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s wife Sulakshana Sawant filing a Rs 100 crore defamation case against AAP MP Sanjay Singh in the Bicholim Civil Court for allegedly making baseless allegations against her. Singh has been asked to appear before the Court on January 10, 2025.
Goa BJP Spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar told the press: “Sanjay Singh is a habitual offender. He had made similar allegations against others earlier also.”
Vernekar said, “He made baseless allegations against the Chief Minister and his wife on December 4. We had said then that a defamation case will be filed against him and it has been filed now.”
Vernekar clarified that the CM’s wife has prayed for a permanent injunction on Singh and those associated with him from making, publishing or republishing any defamatory or libellous statements or videos pertaining to her on social media websites or portals. She has also sought an unconditional apology from Singh. Vernekar alleged that the opposition is targeting the family of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as they are bereft of issues to attack the government.
Speaking about the job scam in Goa, Singh had alleged that the Chief Minister, his wife and BJP ministers were involved in the corruption and bribery case, which the BJP had countered vociferously and threatened to follow up with legal action. The defamation case comes in the wake of that.
