VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar has assured citizens of port town that he would not allow coal-laden heavy vehicles moving to and from the Mormugao Port through the Vasco town and has urged the transporters to use the four- lane port connectivity road.
Salkar was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the “Rajasthan Grameen Mela” at Tourist Hostel in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council Councillors Shami Salkar, Girish Borker, organiser Mahaveer Chellani and others

Salkar said that after many protests in the past to expedite the work of constructing the port connectivity, the same was not ready for use and demanded to know why the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) is not using this road.
He said that he had already spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who he added, will find a solution to it by Monday or Tuesday.
Salkar said that people of Vasco have seen the coal spillage on the road causing pollution.
He demanded that the authorities should ensure that there is no spillage on roads and convince the people how they will stop pollution during transportation.
He also pointed out that in the past heavy truck have been found involved in many accidents in the Vasco town.
The Vasco MLA also urged the people not to use the port connectivity flyover road for walking as it is for the use of vehicles of the port and once the port transportation starts in a full-fledged manner, these vehicles will use the road at full speed.
Salkar said that the unfortunate incident of a clash between taxi and tour operators outside the Mormugao port last week had sent a wrong message about Goa to the nation.
He said that mining and tourism are the main revenue generation sectors and many people are dependent on these businesses. If tourists are given a bad treatment then it will send a wrong message about Goa to the nation and across the world.
Goa is a preferred tourist destination, he said and appealed to taxi operators to give tourists a better treatment so that there is increase in tourists footfall in the State.
