Calls for detailed report to remove the stones

VASCO: South Goa Collector N D Agrawal on Friday along with Mormugao Deputy Collector Gaurish Sankwalkar and officials of PWD (roads division) and National Highway inspected the boulders that are lying precariously along the roadside at New Vaddem slope, Vasco.
Speaking to Herald, Agrawal said his inspection was necessitated following a complaint from Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, who claimed that the boulders were posing a danger to life and property.
“Acting on the complaint, I have visited the site and inspected the site along with the officials of National Highway and PWD (roads division),” he informed.
“I have directed concerned officials to submit a detailed report as to how to remove these boulders without damaging the houses which are atop the hillock,” said Agrawal.
“Once I get the report, I will direct the concerned authorities to clear the boulders,” added Agrawal.
Officials of PWD (roads division) told Herald that it was difficult to clear the boulders as it rests on soft soil and there are houses on top of it. “The boulders should be removed before the onset of monsoon as there is fear that it may roll down and damage vehicles passing by and houses atop,” added the official.
“We have to be very careful to cut these boulders. It should be done manually and any use of machinery will damage the houses,” said the official.
“Even while cutting the boulders manually, the families will have to be evacuated as there are chances that they houses might give way,” added the official.
