Colva cops turn up late for bullfight
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, FEB 22
Colva police as usual reached late at the venue of a bullfight venue at the road junction leading to Sernabatim on Tuesday, while two buffaloes locked horns, leaving one badly injured at the end of the big fight.
The bullfight began at around 9 am, but the men-in-uniform were nowhere to be seen. Even when a police vehicle came close to the venue, the bullfight continued, with the buffaloes literally come close to the road.
The police are believed to have intervened only after the fight came to an end, and seized the injured buffalo, which was later taken to the Colva Police Station.
The police late arrested and released on bail one Aslam Beppari, believed to be owner of the injured buffalo. The police have registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against Beppari and one Mario.
Till late this evening, the injured buffalo was still found tied near the police station and the police said the animal will be released upon orders from the court.
