Colva Panchayat Issues Notice to Shop for Non-Payment of Market Fees; Owner Disputes Charge

The Village Panchayat of Sernabatim, Vanelim, Colva, and Gandaulim has issued a notice to the proprietor of Little Anthony, Colva, over alleged non-payment of market fees.

The action follows a written complaint filed by Market Fees Collector Joseph Fernandes, who claimed that the establishment has been operating within the Panchayat jurisdiction without paying the mandatory levy.

However, the shop owner has disputed the charge, arguing that the Panchayat is wrongly imposing sopo (market fees) within the boundary line of the property. According to the owner, such fees should only apply when business activities are conducted outside the premises.

The Panchayat is expected to review the matter and take a decision based on jurisdictional and legal considerations.
