PANJIM: The Tourism Department plans to do e-mapping of Goa so that tourists visiting the state can get the information they need on their cell phones, thus making mobility easier and their sojourn more pleasant.
Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Nilesh Cabral, has disclosed mega plans of e-networking the state whereby tourists can avail of GPS on their mobiles to obtain valuable information while they tour Goa and find easy access to tourist spots, restaurants and hotels at the click of a button.
Terming it as ‘Apna Mapping’, the tourist mobile facility will work through the Tourism Department website. “We are devising a system where tourists, particularly those who travel around Goa on two-wheelers and four-wheelers will get information on their cell phones through GPS,” Cabral said.
After logging in, tourists will get pop-ups, flags and key inputs of their location, up-coming tourist spots on their route and even information in detail of the spot he/she is visiting and other information of tourist importance.
There is also a plan to include voice mail in the package to make the mobile facility more attractive.
Through this facility free of itinerary travellers (FITs) who travel around Goa without a guide can enjoy learn more about the state as they travel around.
Cabral said his department would like to launch this new facility in October.
The Ministry has also launched an e-newsletter through its website. All upcoming events, events conducted and tourist information will be provided on the e-newsletter.
