MARGAO: An Opel Corsa car (GA-08-A-0976) was gutted in a fire at Borim bridge on Monday morning. Ponda fire brigade which rushed to the spot put off the blaze but the vehicle was completely burnt causing a total loss of approximately 2.80 lakh. The driver of the vehicle Russel J Fernandes, Chinchinim, luckily escaped unhurt.
Fernandes was on his way from Ponda to Margao on Monday when at around 10.14 am on reaching Borim bridge, he noticed fumes coming out of the engine after which he immediately switched off the engine and jumped out of the vehicle. Ponda fire and emergency services leading fire fighter CR Malshekar on receiving information rushed to the site and put off the fire. Traffic on the route was held for some time due to the incident.
