MARGAO: Holding the government squarely responsible for flooding in the area, local residents of Sanvorcotto-Cuncolim have decided to lodge a criminal complaint against Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Addressing the media at Cuncolim on Monday, the locals said that they will also resort to rasta roko agitation if the government does not give full compensation for the loss caused by what they term as a man-made disaster.
Paresh Desai said the Youth Congress will back the local residents for justice and to get the compensation from the government. “We are told that the residents may not get full compensation and may as well end up in getting normal compensation of Rs 2,000-3,000. Since the floods were caused because of negligence of the GSIDC, the government should fully compensate the victims,” he said.
He demanded to know whether the affected people will be able to re-build the compound walls with Rs 2,000-3,000 when laterite stones and cement are beyond the reach of the common man.
Another local Ivan Dias warned the government that they will have no option than to resort to rasta roko to seek justice.
