PANJIM: A complaint against sitting Member of Parliament and BJP candidate Shripad Naik has been filed with the Election Commission of India (ECI) for violating the Model Code of conduct by using Church premises for campaigning in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, scheduled on April 12.
The complaint, also submitted to State Chief Electoral Officer Keshav Chandra, it also points out that Naik along with his supporters went to the Panjim Church on March 21 in order to launch his election campaign.
Pointing out that the Model code of Conduct strictly bans the use of Mosques, Churches, Temples or other places of worship as a forum for election propaganda; the complainant has demanded action against Naik and his supporters.
The complainant along with the complaint copy has attached photo of the campaign launched in the church.
Since the announcement of elections on March 5, total seven complaints have been filed with the CEO of violations of election code of conduct. Of the total seven, five complaints are against BJP cadres including Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
