Condition of municipal school building in Vasco bad

VASCO: Mormugao Municipal high school operating in the municipal building is in a dilapidated condition. The school ceiling is leaking at several places causing inconvenience to students.
When asked what steps have been taken to repair the building, Headmistress Sharada Naik that as per her knowledge, the MMC has written it to the Directorate of Municipal Administration asking to renovate the building. “We have also received a letter from the authorities to vacate the premise, but we do not have an alternate premise to conduct our classes,” she said.
“To evacuate the building, I will have to seek permission from our department requesting them to accommodate our school in another premise,” she said.
In the meantime, she said, the municipality has covered the roof with tarpaulin sheet to prevent water leakage.
Naik also said that since the building belongs to the municipality, the school cannot interfere with the infrastructure. “We are dependent on the council to look after repair work,” she said.
She also disclosed that few days a private company had assured to undertake repair work of the roof under Corporate Social Responsibility.
When contacted, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar said that the municipal building is old and the partial repair of the ceiling seems to be difficult during the rainy season. “But I will have to look into the matter since I have taken charge of this municipality recently,” he added quickly.
