PORVORIM: Congress on Wednesday alleged that the government was deliberately sidelining crucial issues like drugs, prostitution, coal pollution, etc. from being discussed in the Assembly session.
MLAs alleged that issues being discussed in the House are interrupted by some ruling MLAs through non-related supplementary questions. “On the serious drugs issue, (ruling MLA) Carlos Almeida raised a question about staff strength at police station in his constituency. There was no proper discussion on this topic and no appropriate reply from the government to the questions tabled by our legislators,” Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said at a press conference after the morning session on Wednesday.
He alleged that the government was ‘cleverly diverting’ the issues. “Coal pollution was not even raised for discussion. The issues are being cleverly diverted by the government,” he said. Lourenco had tabled a starred question on coal pollution, and a joint starred question on drugs.
Nilkanth Halarnkar rued the improper reply to his question on high number of acquittals in prostitution cases. His demand to hand over a 2015 prostitution case – listed in A-summary – was not agreed to by the government though the latter assured to inquire into the case.
The MLAs were also disappointed that several important issues were taken up in Zero Hour.
