PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Thursday said that he accept his defeat as a leader and requested the Congress High Command to relieve him from the current post.
He said, “Though communicated, I failed to fully convince the people of Goa to not to split the votes and to give clear mandate to Indian National Congress.”

“People had aggression against the BJP government which they made evident by casting less than the quarter of votes to BJP. But due to vote split between the other parties BJP could succeed in winning the seats in 20 constituencies,” Congress Election In-Charge P Chidambaram said.
“We failed to channelise the anti-BJP sentiment of Goa in the direction of Congress,” Chidambaram added.
He added that the people of Goa wanted a change but they couldn’t bring about the change in their voting behaviour.
“The votes were split among the other parties that gave the BJP a free pass to victory with 20 seats,” he claimed.
Stating that the Congress fought the elections effectively, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “Congress Party will work as a responsible Opposition and will become the voice of people at every step.”
Winning candidates Michael Lobo, Digambar Kamat and Yuri Alemao were also present at the briefing.
