PANJIM: The opposition Congress on Monday demanded that the government should implement the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 in the State.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress House, here, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesman Srinivas Khalap and secretary Sanjay Barde said that farmers from Mopa, Pernem were the major land losers after their land was acquired for the Mopa Greenfield Airport.
They said that the government acquired their land at a meagre Rs 40 per square metres and if the new Act was implemented then these farmers would have received three to four times more compensation.
Khalap suggested that if the government was now unable to provide adequate compensation to affected Mopa farmers as per the new Act then it should provide jobs to their kin in its projects.
Barde alleged that the government lawyers were opposing any fair compensation to land losers. He also demanded that the government should provide compensation to cutting of a tree according to its 40-year yield.
Khalap also condemned the killing of Kashmiri pandits in Kashmir. He said that Union government has failed to stop exodus of Kashmiri pandits after promising them that if returned to power, the BJP government would rehabilitate them.
