PANJIM: Congress party along with activists from the SC, ST, OBC, and Minority People’s Forum, participated in a Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman march from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Park to Azad Maidan in Panjim, on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar said, “This government has a history of insulting great leaders. First, they targeted Mahatma Gandhi, then they attacked Jawaharlal Nehru, and now they have insulted Dr Ambedkar, likely to divert attention from the US court’s indictment of Adani Group head Gautam Adani. If the people of India now receive basic services like light and water without discrimination, it is because of Ambedkar’s vision.”
He condemned Shah’s statements, saying, “He has no right to hold his post. He must apologise and resign immediately.”
Activists also voiced their anger over Shah’s remarks. Chhaya Korgaonkar, an activist, said, “Shah claimed it has become fashionable to mention Dr Ambedkar’s name. I’ve never seen Goa, nor have I been to heaven, but what I know is that Dr Ambedkar is more important than Goa to us. We cannot tolerate such an insult.”
SK Jadhav, another activist, pointed out, “We must not forget that it was Ambedkar who fought for our social and political rights. It is shameful that the Home Minister of our country would make such a statement.”
MD Ubale, another activist, expressed frustration, saying, “Our blood is boiling because of Shah’s statement, but we cannot raise our voices. If we do, we risk being branded anti-national and imprisoned.”
The GPCC’s memorandum and the subsequent protests underscore the growing discontent over the Union Home Minister’s comments, with local leaders and activists calling for immediate action and accountability.
