MARGAO: Succumbing to the pressures from a section of party leadership, the Congress party on Sunday has stopped Sudip Tamhankar from addressing the media as Congress party spokesman with immediate effect.
GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar further said that the party will immediately refer Tamhankar’s issue to the party’s disciplinary committee for a decision.
Referring to reports in a section of the media about Tamhankar’s resignation from the post of Congress party spokesman, Shirodkar said that the party has not received any resignation from Tamhankar till date, adding “hence, he said the question of receiving the resignation does not arise”.
The GPCC chief declined to go into the questions of the party’s decision to stop Tamhankar from addressing the media. Sources in Congress circles, however, said a section of party leadership had been demanding Tamhankar’s head following his outburst against some party leaders, especially in respect of the mining scam.
In fact, Margao Congress workers had made an open demand last month with Dr Chella Kumar for the removal of Tamhankar as party spokesman for lodging complaints against party’s Pratapsing Rane and Digambar Kamat.
