PANJIM: A day after Crime Branch registered an FIR in the alleged mining scam, the Congress Tuesday termed it a farce.
CLP spokesman Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco at a press conference alleged that the government should have waited for the Supreme Court’s verdict before registering the case.
“Congress welcomes the fresh development. I feel that since the Supreme Court is seized of the matter, let a decision be taken first. Whoever the SC indicts as being involved in the scam should be named in the FIR,” he opined.
The Mines Department had lodged a complaint based on reports of theCEC , the Justice Shah Commission and the Public Accounts Committee which was attached to the main complaint.
The Shah commission had mentioned the names of several politicians, and government officials in connection with the scam. The extent of the loss to the public exchequer has been estimated at Rs 35,000 crore.
